Do This One SEO Tip to Rank Better In Google

The problem with search engine optimization (SEO) is that it involves strange words, ideas, and concepts. School marketers become intimidated of SEO work because they simply don't understand what exactly to do and how to actually do search engine optimization.

In an effort to help you begin to understand how to do search engine optimization work, I want to share one SEO tip to help you rank better in Google.

One SEO Tip

If you complete this simple tutorial I'll help you rank in Google for your selected keyword.

Let's begin…

1. Select the keyword or keyword phrase that your school should rank for in the top three places for a Google search. For my example, I'll use SchneiderB.com and the keyword I want to rank for in the top three places in Google is “inbound marketing for schools“.

2. The next step is to locate in your content management system (CMS) where you enter the TITLE of your home page. The TITLE is a very important signal for search engine optimization and it is what shows up in the tab of your browser if you're using Google Chrome. The reason that I'm suggesting your home page is because your homepage is probably your highest ranking page in Google. The idea is that you select your most important keyword and enter it into your highest ranking page in Google. This one SEO tip will help you to rank better in Google for your most important keyword.

Additionally, after entering your keyword best practice would suggest that you enter your school's name.

In my blog's example, I would enter the following in the area reserved for the TITLE of the page:

Inbound Marketing for Schools | SchneiderB Media

For my school I would enter:

Pittsburgh Private School | Sewickley Academy

3. Your last step is to load your homepage and check the tab of your browser to make sure your keyword is showing up correctly.

If you follow this one SEO tip you will begin to rank better for your most important keyword. Just remember, search engine optimization doesn't occur overnight and it will take time. After a few weeks, though, you should begin to see your homepage rank much higher in a Google search for the keyword you selected in step #1.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.
